Janice Lynn Cohen Symposium - The Role of Faith and Medicine in Violence Prevention & Peace: Creating a Healthy Community for Our Young People
The Janice Lynn Cohen Symposium is sponsored by CRCDS and the Department of Pediatrics of the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry and serves as an avenue of dialogue focused on bringing together medical professionals, clergy, pastoral leaders, policymakers, social workers, and members of the general community to discuss issues related to the medical and spiritual care of children and adolescents. The idea of the symposium came following the death of the young daughter, Janice Lynn Cohen who died at age 9 from complications of cystic fibrosis. Janice Lynn is the daughter of Doris (who is present) and the late Marshall. They both recognized during the time of their daughter's hospitalization and subsequent death, the importance of pastoral as well as medical care. The Cohens wishes was to encourage the cooperation of two professions in working together and in consultation with their physician and CRCDS administer, initiated a memorial endowment to establish an annual symposium for members of the clergy and medical personnel to deal together with topics related to children.
